For Show Week, there looks very likely, a non-severe thunderstorm risk for Canterbury as the Anticyclone in the Tasman Sea retreats and loses some of it's strength but enhancing a Sw flow on it's SE flank.
With daytime heating and an influx of coastal NE, plus a lowering of surface air pressures, the sound of thunder looks likely on the cards.
I'm not picking on any days but judging by today's skies, if the conditions were right, there could of been something more spectacular than the Rolleston fireworks I observed tonight.

Probably down there, spring is boring nothing here except tons of Sc unless it goes more WNW but its unlikely as that stupid high remains in the tasman. We get lots of ours in WNW flows

I've seen 2 good thunderstorms in the last 3 days, but would prefer the nice hot sunshine more often. First one probably dumped about 40mm in 40 minutes.

As now that non-severe or any thunder seems unlikely, I may have to delete this topic, sadly

Some As castellatus observed overhead this afternoon, but Cast is not a very indicator for thunder activity sadly, here.

We had buildups today, but Canterbury should have more chance in a SSW flow especially if you get a NE in the next few days.

I'm not too sure on the chances tomorrow, although surface barometer is low enough.

Thanks Chris for that, I have decided I will keep this topic open because of this report of yours, and maybe others.

Had a brief shower later in evening, but heard no thunder. Must've been off the coast to the east.

Could be some thunder likely in the McKenzie area tomorrow.
Might be an interesting upper level enhancement to do this?

No thunder likely for here, summer now,so this makes for a very disappointing el Nino spring into summer
I have a feeling that no storms seem likely over the summer period or so just usual weather from weather patterns moving across the country.
