OMG!! It's huge...
Lots of rumbling here in Waddington now - still no rain or wind - but almost constant rumbling from south/s.east towards Rakaia...

I'm counting about 2-3 seconds now.....fantastic lightening display going on. Storm not moving away in a hurry...seems to be swirling around instead.

Re: Canterbury Thunderstorms - 14th December 2009
Grrr - just took a drive from Waddington to Kirwee, into the storm, and my bloody camera batteries ran out - road in places is thick with hail - white as - and it's raining, windy and a few lightning bolts. Back here in Waddington it's still dry, can hear rumbles but no rain or wind or hail etc. Looking black to the south and clouds tracking north again now, so might be in for some fun later - batteries charging

Re: Canterbury Thunderstorms - 14th December 2009
you guys have an extremely agressive convection line there, and what looks like a tornadic circulation between ashburton and darfield

Nice gust front there Karsh. If anybody comes across large hail it would be interesting if you could get a photo of it against a coin.
