Well, I'm not eating any underpants for this one
Chances for a good event look set due to timing mainly and the persistence of an easterlyish inflow.
If the southerly comes through too early, well Marlborough may get it; but then just wait and see.
I'm on 3 out 5 for this one, at the moment.
Hopfully the southerly and low cloud doesnt stop the storms from developing like it did on monday the 14th Ill be in chrishchurch tommorw anyway which i think is more likely to be affected than down here.
Aargh.. How do I get out of a 4yr olds' birthday party to chase storms?!!! Easy answer is: I don't! GO Jase, Mike, John and Lacertae! Even MS now start their High risk from TC I see, John!

Yes. That's why I haven't got my underpants up for the eating
I can just see it now... 'And here is the National Programme weather report. John Gaul says he won't be eating his underpants, so there is a high risk of thunder in Canterbury today.'!!!
im already to go now lol, just going to wait.
Im heading out with leighton at anytime and can meet up with other chasers aswel.. just flick me txt lacertae jase etc.
Keep in mind there is not much instability with the southerly change today and the most likely spot for thunderstorms will be over the hills/ranges where there is some orographic push up. So its not really a good set up for stormchasing but the southerly buster may have a photogenic roll cloud with it as it passes Christchurch early afternoon.
Not looking very good sadly,now
It's west to SW here. You need that easterly onshore flow like last Monday.
As Steve W. says you will probably need an orographic push up for anything to happen.
Anyway, i hope we get a good rain later, just in time for Christmas.
Sorry guys, can't afford the fuel nor the time twice a week for chasing storms ...
Good luck and try not to miss the action this time ! (don't beat me, I'm just kidding !)
The best place will be inland North Canterbury this afternoon i think, abit of a bugger its SW already however its not cooling down either.
I will be keeping an eye out and if things develope nicly i will head out.
