Re: General January Weather
Although we are a long way away from the North Island action last night we had a surprise evening shower that began in the mid Waitaki Valley west of Duntroon headed east and gave some rain in Oamaru around 11pm.This morning I can see Ac Cast to the north so perhaps some more afternoon showers inland again today. Fine for the first time in many days this time of the morning

Re: General January Weather
Signs of a clearance happening over the past half hour. I think a good chance of steady drizzle tonight however. Not that cold though at the moment as it is 18 degrees and a dewpoint of 13.Captain Salty wrote:the drizzle gods are back again. from the webcams i see arthur's pass has glorious blue skies while castle hill has zero visibility

Back to 'normal' weather here this morning with overcast skies and the occasional drizzle. A few gaps in the cloud this afternoon.

Hi Andrew. Yes to your question. The main activity expected was over Marlborough and Nelson and this seems to have turned up. Don't know yet how heavy the rainfall was there yet.Andrew Massie wrote:Currently at Arthur's Pass, am I correct that MS are picking thunderstorms for canterbury high country tonight? Re: General January Weather
Looks like we're in for a windy spell here in the north by the end of month (continuing into Feb)....GFS consistently showing easterlies around 30 knots over the sea. Will have to watch how the situation develops as we get nearer the time.

Re: General January Weather
Looks af it the sub tropical low for this weekend and into next week is being pushed further north due to a high that is continuing to intensify peaking at 1043hpa to the south east. It looks like it covers a significant area and is slow moving so if the high weakens that subtropical low could impact on the Upper North Island. I would say it is not very likely now as the last 6 runs have been consistent but if this is going to change it will have to be in the next 4 runs or so. Big low affecting eastern parts of aussie as well during the same time period, very messy looking for quite some time.

Metservice saying 23 in Ashburton and 19 here in Christchurch. Higher humidity here in Christchurch with 81% compared to Ashburton 70% however easterly freshening here in Christchurch so thats keeping a lid on the temperature.Deano wrote:26 degrees with a high dewpoint here in Ash,Quite a bit warmer than ChCh with 19 at the same time

Re: General January Weather
From what I've seen, there is the odd one that quotes readings from other sites when its 2 degrees or more, higher than the 'official' temperature so I can't see any reason why you can't go by that one.Deano wrote:Sorry, thought it was the official site for TV recordings.Have now edited,

Re: General January Weather
Well, back to work today. We have had a beaut Jan so far. Kids swimming at beach every day. I am having to water the seeds planted in the garden due to lack of rainfall. I know this won't last, so we are making the most of it now. Am going to price up clothes dryers this weekend - just getting prepared. Interesting cloud formations over the hills at times due to the easterly fohn effect - I am used to seeing it in the other direction. Sunrise is later over here, but sunset is longer - the mountains no longer in the way. Will try to get some pics and then figure out how to upload them. Enjoy your day where-ever you are

Re: General January Weather
Is that in 26 days, or 27? Wgton has only had 139.5 in 26, should probably not lower the record of 175.5.melja wrote:So you think we have lots of sun in the last few days RWOOD, its only up to around 125hrs so far and 11 hrs came all in one day since then it has been cloudy again.
