Re: General February Weather
Morning,
First day of Feb and I awoke to a light drizzle shower this morning (fabulous) still albeit a light drizzle - I'm not complaining it's good to see the garden looking perked up and happy today, currently 21° C out - partly cloudy skies, cooler with a light ENE wind.

Re: General February Weather
It's hosing down in Hukerenui ( just got of the phone from speaking to my son ) and the farmer's are diffinately happy...will give a rainfall amount hopefully within the hour from their area.
Winds have picked up with the occassional strong gust - skies are looking good from where NE presently.
Also a friend sent me this link to a weather web cam from The Rusty Anchor Backpackers in Whatuwhiwhi, cheer's for that
Goodness, just had a powersurge - wonder if that's because of the winds?

50mm in the rain gauge taken from Hukerenui - very happy this morning
Meanwhile I have enjoyed watching the clouds increase this morning - alot of low cloud moving in quickly from the NE.

Re: General February Weather
i dont like the humidex reading. im currently over 30 too and it doesnt feel like 30 one bit.. it feels like what the temp actually is. about 24 25 degrees. much prefer the use of the heat index.

TSW is the best i think.jamie.h wrote:i dont like the humidex reading. im currently over 30 too and it doesnt feel like 30 one bit.. it feels like what the temp actually is. about 24 25 degrees. much prefer the use of the heat index.
It accounts for the amount of Sun/wind/temperature (but you need a solar sensor to get it)
Anyway got a light overcast at the moment. No rain since the morning.

Re: General February Weather
Humidex is designed for being out and about. Sitting in my office at home it definitely doesnt feel over 30... a walk down the street and back and I was sweating and the air felt thick and definitely over 30.

Re: General February Weather
I know what you mean it doesn't feel like 33 here at all, but I don't like how the heat index only applies once the temp hits 27 or higher, hence I use the humidex...jamie.h wrote:i dont like the humidex reading. im currently over 30 too and it doesnt feel like 30 one bit.. it feels like what the temp actually is. about 24 25 degrees. much prefer the use of the heat index.
Maybe it would feel like 33 if someone was working outside physically, lol

Re: General February Weather
Did someone finally flick the summer switch on
, the last 3 days have been just wonderful
it feels like it should be a record for us
.
February normally is the calmer of the three summer months for the South Island especially, but then so is January normally.

Re: General February Weather
the other usefull index is the THSW
which takes into account the solar reading...and since there was not much solar today, it might not have been as high
i.e if the sun was out, then it would have felt hot and humid!

Re: General February Weather
First day for a week without lightning being recorded somewhere over the NI. Looks to be a risk of isolated thunderstorms over the Waitomo region tomorrow if the west coast sea breeze can develop in opposition to the E.
Interesting thermal contrast between east and west over the South Island today. Milford Sound got to 29C.

yes, I just noticed the activity over Taranaki way!
Shame the easterly was so strong as it shut down the convergence thunder chances nearer Auckland.
