it always amuses me when people are surprised that hailstorms actually occur in summer!

Yeah definitely a storm to remember, would have to be the biggest hailstones I have seen, which wouldn't be hard as I usually try to avoid them when chasing! Looks as though it will be our first storm to cause over $100 million of damage too. Its unusual for Perth to get such large hail as severe storms such as these usual track SE to E and as they usually develop to the north of Perth this takes them well away from the metro area. The largest stones fell over Western and North Western suburbs. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning mention hail up to 6cm fell and going by the photos and footage I have seen they were definitely that big maybe even a bit bigger.

At my house the hail was small with the odd stone measuring 3-4cm across, interestingly the hail I got was more disc shaped too. I still have a few in my freezer and I even ate a few just because I could!

Yes, quite a strong upper low just off the coast with cut off low on surface. The 500mb flow was 60kts. The speed shear was a key factor behind the development of the large hail.

Yes theres ,can see 2 separate lots of debris under both.

yea i keep thinking that each time i see the footage on the news. there is one visible one in the back ground that has condensation to the ground it looks. but there is also one much closer with a debris cloud and much less condensation.

BoM esitmates the Lennox Head twister as an EF1 or EF2 with winds of at least 150 km/h.
12 homes destroyed and another 30 damaged during its short 10 seconds on the ground.

Apparently the Lennox Head twister has been confirmed as a classic supercellular tornado and not a waterspout turned landspout as initially reported by the media, although several waterspouts were also sighted around the area that day.

Looking at the extent of the damage, which has been declared a disaster-zone, it's amazing that the only serious injuries were to a mother and baby. The mother suffered lacerations to her back from imploding glass windows as she fled downstairs with the baby, just before the roof disappeared.
