Planespotters forum ___o8o___

Unread post by Andrew Massie »

Ok, my turn to start an off-topic for aircraft and aviation enthusiasts...

Background for me;

Tried to be a RNZAF Skyhawk pilot, but too slow at algebra for them, became a sparky.

Went to numerous Wings and Wheels airshows at RNZAF Wigram
Been to Warbirds over Wanaka 6 times
Chch Airport 50 year anniversary 1987
Australian Bicentennial Airshow 1988
Auckland Airport Airshow 1992
Oshkosh International Airshow, WI 1997
STS-85 Shuttle Discovery launch 1997
Last Ohakea Skyhawk Airshow 1999
Australian International Airshow Avalon 2005

Soo.. I've seen some stuff, will scan and post pics from old airshows, but I'll kick off with pics and video from Warbirds over Wanaka 2010 this coming weekend.

Noticed 4x F-18 Hornets based out of Chch today doing practice circuits around Banks Peninsula.. Getting excited!

This was after doing a Morris dance with him and the late Sir Peter Elworthy down in Timaru a few years ago.
They were both fighter pilot buddies.

You know I wouldn't sneer, John! I'm actually very open-minded about all forms of culture (let's face it, I'm a Tertiary Tutor)! Anyway, stop hijacking my thread! [-X 0_o

I saw 5 Australian F16's at Auckland Airport last Friday morn as I was taking off. They were parked out on the tarmac. Where were they headed, to Australia or down to Wanaka?

Think you mean Australia's new F/A-18 Super Hornets (don't think Oz has any F16 Falcons). They were en route to Austrailia from California. See pic and story here.
