Currently GFS has the Low moving into the central Tasman mid next week and deepening there. A lot of cold air in the upper levels over the Tasman by mid next week, usually means a lot of showers/ rain for us .
That sounds good. I've been looking at the low around the Chathams. Seems to be quite strong, weakoning the anticyclone to the east of it and forcing it's high pressure articles to move eventually slowly around to the east under it. a "Blocking Low" ?
Maybe this next low has the same strength? Nice to see it coming our way
Short spell of moderately intense (I wouldn't say heavy) rain in central Chch and Riccarton about 9pm. Seems to have been localised as Jeff recorded nothing at Hillmorton.
GFS long range looks complex later in the week.
About time we had something interesting to look forward too,if it comes off.
Was a warm night in central ChCh last night.
Looks like a good spell of unstable weather( probably thundery at times) comming up for atleast northwestern parts of the NorthIsland starting about Wendsday.

Great ,as i'm sick of having to still be moving sprinklers around this late in the season,be the end of this warm weather though.
Lovely day at the moment even with the thick high cloud, 19C right now and a light NW wind
Interesting report there Richard, here in Kaiapoi its overcast and cooler on 14.5C with a light southerly and light patchy rain off and on since 6pm last night.
Only 1mm to show for it though, a wee teaser for the possible low systems next week.
Good to see that rain falling up there
I suppose there are lots of spiders or other insects to be cleared out of raingauges as the rain falls.
I hope the rain is gradual and not heavy, so it soaks into the parched ground.
Very dry down here as well. Hope we get good rain but not wet soggy stuff that is not really good for coming winter that saturises the ground which can not be very nice.
Could be an interesting winter with some late snowfalls

Living in the NW capital of Canterbury can have its draw backs in spring when it blows for days on end,but this time of year its handy for keeping it a bit warmer and keeping frosts away on nights when those on the plains can have a heavy frost.
That wind change came through about 6.00 and really cooled down, hit a high of 20C before hand
Funny that all months pausity of straight easterly winds except May,full on leaf season, any other time would be great, all the neighbours trees with the yellow twig thing and the other thing like a willow facing due east with the thousands of tiny leaves to fly like bees and stick all over the roof and elsewhere,at least were having a very mild autumn so far.

Morning John,
No spiders in raingauge and rainfall has been gradual, steady, light to moderate, good - another 6mm in raingauage overnight overnight min 16.1 C currently 18.2 C out.
Lightning in NZ The right terminology lends a hint as to the nature of the different forms.
A Vertigo Quote.
Kerikeri-Weather also up to 6.4mm this morn. Yes, around 15mm in some parts of the very Far North since late yesterday. Not much further south though; only about 2mm in Whangarei City and just a few spits here so far...
Nice day here so far blue skys and no wind slight frost first thing this morning overnight low of 0 degrees. Good to see those places up north getting some rain. Hopefully we get some decent rain later on on in the week.
So far there hasnt been hardly any rain in the 09 from this low.. Good to hear that Northland has gotten a drink, but I wish it would drench the rest of us!
Some good falls up north in the last couple of hours. Kerikeri-Weather now up to 28mm. NRC has 33.0mm at Weta (NE of Kaeo), 7mm at Whangarei and 9mm at Mangawhai Heads (most other places around 10-15mm).
yes, that was a solid line of rain that moved onto eastern northland
tues/wed will be auckland area's turn hopefully
(some scattere patchy/spitty rain otherwise till then)
