Preliminary NIWA summary:

Some spots at over 400% of average rainfall.
Some detail on Wellington sun for the latter part of May: First 15 days had 77.4 hours of sun, running well ahead of the average 4.1 hours/day.
The last 16 days: just 14.7 hours, over half of that on Saturday 22nd. At this stage, a record low 21-day total for any 3-week timespan (in this case starting at May 16) is still a possibility.

checking my rain records, 209mm for may here was one of the wettest mays on record here (since 1957), 225mm being the previous record
