Starting to feel like some showers are near by for the first time today. Wind picking up,it has been still all day. Looking at 1pm radar seems we may get some showers in CHCH on the backend of this.

Great Picture Richard. Poor horse though! Yes well heaviest rain over the last 24 hours here now easily. 4.5mm in last hour here. Paddocks have plenty of surface water. We would have problems if it even rained half of what was forecasted. Good steady rain still falling but probably short lived.

3pm radar shows some rapid intensifying. May be another brief burst of heavier rain for those paddocks out there to deal with Richard. Keep us posted.

They also said that rain was not expected to reach warning levels in the watch, thats why i said it and it was said last night that it was strange that no full warning was given.

there has been heavy showers around the Auckland area, the Waitakere ranges bore the brunt of that last line

Steady light to moderate rainfall here since 7pm last night. Eased to drizzle now 32mm since 5pm yesterday a lot more than i was expecting.

yes, some heavy showers west Auckland this morning. The cooler weather around Auckland this afternoon, temperature 13C would amount to zero CAPE (stable conditions). The rainfall is from spent anvil cloud. Looking forward to brighter weather tomorrow.

Some showery rain from old Cb here this afternoon,quite heavy for a time, cool 13C.

Half of the backlawn is under water already, I dont ever remember seeing it this waterlogged, maybe once before. Just shows how high the water table is in the ground at the moment. Still steady light - moderate rain falling. Once again on 4pm radar shows more intensifying for areas north of CHCH, maybe some northern suburbs of the city too. Perhaps another 10-15mm in some areas before this system gives way to the east.

Up to 30mm so far since 5pm last night, rain was quite steady to heavy off and on from midnight to i think around 4am last time i woke up and it was more silent on the roof.
Ashley River Bridge was closed for awhile this morning due to high river levels, and plenty of surface water building up in paddocks etc.
Rain has been light and drizzly all day at work but picked up around 3pm as i left work falling steadily with big sleet droplets mixed in which is interesting the snow level must be about 300m.
My work is near Oxford which is 256m asl.

M/S have should have a warning out in southern wairarapa as a watch just aint good enough. It has been torrential all day with roads closed.The bridge down the road is impassible. But i guess that it can't have warranted a full warning as water flowing over bridges must clearly mean we still are not expected to get above warning amounts. I would love to know how much rainfall a place needs before a full warning????

Methven rain and 6 degrees at 320 metres
Castle Hill rain and 3.6 degrees at 700 metres
Rain easing off here this afternoon as forecast.
Hopefully fining up for our wkd in Hanmer!

Just had a look down my well and its only 40 cm from the top,three months ago it was at 5 meters.
Here's a pic of young grape plants at Waipara this afternoon,they dont mind being in water for short periods but if it stays wet for to long they may spit the dummy,

Deano , ive spent over 30 years working in the high country shearing/mustering etc and have experienced many snow events, the one thing i have learnt over those years is larger the snow flake the lower it will descend as sleet,it is possible Jase saw sleet though it may well have been closer to a pure raindrop than snow flake.

Deano , ive spent over 30 years working in the high country shearing/mustering etc and have experienced many snow events, the one thing i have learnt over those years is larger the snow flake the lower it will descend as sleet,it is possible Jase saw sleet though it may well have been closer to a pure raindrop than snow flake.

For sure!
But that flake is falling a loong way when snow is setling at well over 1000 metres asl.
If the snow level was 500-600 metres then it would sound more realistic.
Anyway,thats just my opinion.

Yeah it was fizzling when it hit the windowscreen and could just see it coming down, wouldnt surprise me as there was snow on the hills with a clear window around lunctime i would say the 500-600m mark.
Are you in Hanmer too this weekend same here, on a 4 wheel drive trip though.

Its being interesting why areas within 50 kms around Bank Peninsula have had little in the way of precipitation from this event.
Ive heard it said many times that it because of the sheltering effect of the Peninsula,i personally dont believe that is correct but that its more to do with the lifting effects of the inland higher altitudes as the onshore winds cross the country.Its just that the areas around Bank Peninsula are far enough away to the east not to come under these lifting influences.
