Re: Polar blast lines up for spring
Quick rain band has now exited the region, should be a good roller coming into Wellington soon.
Crop showers inbehind with the coldest of the air, not too many there at the moment but they do look intense.
So maybe some hail/sleet snow showers to near sea level tonight for awhile, will be very coastal though.
Wind is now more W-SW and up to 5C.

Missed that nice developed Hail/grapel shower here only caught the edge with a few brief tiny stones, some nice towering CU though i was waiting for rumble of thunder too.
Looks be another CB sitting to the south now on the horizon, the direction has changed with those showers coming in more S-SW than W-SW.

A Thunderstorm for Wellington, if it was over Ak or Chch there would have been half a dozen reports on the forum by now.

OK... some thunder and lightning, heavy rain in Lower Hutt, lots of smallish hail in Karori, a bit of wind, a lot colder...

Looks like the SW change is arriving in Auckland now, showers have just arrived here, and the wind at the airport is SW 48kph gusting 65kph. No strong winds here yet (still Westerly)

I agree.Richard wrote:That so called blast was pathetic, one mil of rain/hail and now calm
I fell asleep when the change arrived. Good rain though with 5.3mm from it. Have't measured the rain-gauge since the last shower passed over around 6:30pm. No snow, no hail no graupal, just rain showers from the passing clouds.
Winds West or WSW here but more Southerly when I was in town this afternoon..

Late July.
"Locked around Antarctica"
Myth. I despair when scientific professionals and the media combine to distort the facts like this.
Climate is what you expect. Weather is what you get.

Interesting. Nothing of that sort here. Snow at Waddington and sleety showers around ChCh.CHCH Weather Chaser wrote:Just had a heavy sleet shower, almost a snow shower. Will be the last by the looks of it on radar
