Re: General October Weather
Was driving back to Halswell from town about half an hour ago and some sleet was splutting on the windscreen in that heavier period of rain. Back to lighter stuff again now.

Re: General October Weather
I noticed on MS weather warnings and severe convection thunder outlook that there was a deep coldtrough moving up this arvo and into the evening, who knows it might come bit further north then expected, i certainly have noticed the air become unstable in the last hour with some heavy showers offshore on the rain radar.
cheers

Re: General October Weather
I love it how members on this forum call it a "mini" tornado and yet the Media article linked didn't say mini once.....

Re: General October Weather
Was ensconced on the Croesus Track above Blackball over the long weekend, had some great storms esepcailly overnight Sunday and Monday.
It was snowing on the way home yesterday evening from Cora Lynn right through to Porters Pass, had settled to the paddocks before Springfield. Very pretty.

Re: General October Weather
Yes some instability about again today lead to some isolated heavy showers some possibly with hail, all seemed to be inland from the city and up around north canterbury where i was.
The shower at around 2pm had some strong W-SW gusts with it and had that look it could have flung out a bolt or two.

Re: General October Weather
Just the USA ones often compared to them with more proliferation in the media,I think in the "old days" they would simply call our ones a tornado or a whirl wind or even a sudden gust.

Re: General October Weather
am getting tired of the wet spring we're having on the West Coast.
have recorded rain every day except one this month.
that has resulted in a paltry 72 hours of sunshine so far in October.
and September had 22 days rain also, so 44 of the last 53 days have had rain.
i guess it is spring after all, but woe is me.

Re: General October Weather
As far as I am concerned tornado's aren't small or mini, they should be named exactly what they are. Eg: Landspout or Tornado.
I don't understand whats wrong with calling a supposed "mini" tornado a tornado/landspout because irrespective of size or destructive power they are still the same.
Cool SW winds today and mild to moderate convection this afternoon.
