A very moist front coming into the west of the North Island later tomorrow will have some heavy showers and possible thunder.
South of Raglan looking more favourable.

Yet MetS say inland.

Amazing difference in the weather today in Canterbury, working in and around Rangiora where the sun did come out a bit, mostly cool and cloudy, more so after 4.00pm, got home to clear sky&warm and a NW wind

Got photographers coming around tomorrow to take photos of the property to be put on the market.
Would look good to show this house with a very dramatic sky in the background, saying this place used to belong to the president and founder of the NZ Thunderstorm Society :eek: :rolleyes:

Southerly arrived and temperature has dropped 7° in the past hour or so;
merely raggedy cloud to the south at present, with some bubbly stuff to the north.
Some red and purple bits in South Canterbury on the rain-radar... 0_o

Some big Cbs/thunderstorms showing up South Canterbury way.

I'm picking we will see more in the way of cold troughing than usual coming NZs way next few weeks however for northern NZ we tend to get more ridging this time of year.

That S Canterbury storm has been firing away since about 4pm, didn't think it would have lasted this long and thought it would have moved further North.

I'm picking the same will, some big thunderstorms down south this afternoon with one small cell loping up just north of Ashburton.

Looks very black towards the foothills from here just now, and a Spy reports "rain, hail and snow" at times in the Staveley area.

One rumble of thunder here so far. Plenty of hail too but not huge stuff just little hail but lots of it especially up the road from me up the gorge more. Might be a few more waves come through so we'll see if we get anything else.

Another disturbed week ahead on the 500mb pattern but not that much rainfall in the model.
For thunder chances a shortwave crosses the South Island on Tuesday and then another progged to cross the North Island Wednesday.
Extended outlook is for systems on Friday and next Monday but do we believe the gfs that far out!
