Been some weak thunderstorms out to west of Auckland/Northland this morning. Perhaps some convergence has triggered these.i see some big showers to the west of us
Upper air is cooling off again over Auckland so day time heating would trigger a few cbs over the region. However, the weak front to our south looks like it is edging onto us which will cut out thermal heating.

NZstorm I could see those Cu/Cb's to the NW aswell this morning, they looked quite impressive. Attached is 7am radar.
One of these appeared to develop an anvil just in the time it took for me to get from west aucks to newmarket. I'm assuming that this is from some sort of convergence.
Anyhoo, guess will see what happens....i've got a good feeling about today (much like i did on wednesday)

thats a great landcare sat image
just a narrow shower line go through....
but thats it
the warm front has fizzled
that cb line is moving onto the far north...with, yes, heavy rain in it...
it looks like a surge that arose from via cook straight...snuk up through there.....
so someone will is getting the heavy falls predicted
cant see much rain around....for the auckland area.,...but with the low to the east approaching east coast areas, maybe it will re fire things up ......
so who knows....what will happen today/tomorrow for this area...

Top shot ricky...thats the buggar!
did anyone see the really tall skinny towers that surrounded this Cb?
The ones I saw where about 3 times higher than they where wide!!
To me this indicates the atmospheres ability to allow uplift. The only thing that limits it from here is available moisture and any changes to the upper.
I see the high cloud coming in from the south now....i assume this will keep a lid on things today....but its early days yet

Sounds good
To note I just checked the ready charts, CAPE for Hamilton is at 625.0 and a LI of -1 almost circled over the Waikato Basin! I can't wait....!
Perhaps an early get away notice for AK storm chasers to head south!!
