Yes, Isolated thunderstorms poping up over central North Island. Can see one nice anvil now and other large cu going up.
If a convergence got going I'm positive some storms would form in the Waikato this afternoon
Yes, air is unstable enough. Just need focused forcing such as convergence. :)

Awesome photos of the BoP storms - probably where all the action was this evening, but Rotorua & Taupo earlier. MetService totally cocked up Tauranga's forecast when they changed it to "fine" from about 2.00

Darn, I was sure it was going to pelt down tonight :(

Back to fine warm weather tomorrow :?

Some Towering Cu around Auckland now, one or two afternoon showers in our area look likely.

if it gets bigger i will take a photo and post up.

Hopefully the instabilities indicated by steven may cause some showers here this arvo......we need the rain!!

Spwill, I am impressed by your attempts at catching distant lightning the other night. A bit fruitless though. Just wait till you get to USA!!!! :D

As I mentioned in a post on another thread, some low level instability about today. Some impressive cu tops to 3000m and then its a capped environment. High inland temperatuters might just kick off a cb there but I doubt it. Met service highlight the low risk in their TS forecast for today. Tomorrow could be a better chance if dewpoints can creep up a little bit.

Currently in Grey Lynn, Calm, temp 27C, dp17C, 4/8t/cu.

Support a local Storm Chaser ;)

If anyone is interested and place the odd bet on the races, there is a horse racing in
GREYMOUTH HARNESS, RACE 6 at 14:50 called Storm Chaser

It had its first race and won it on friday, (nice we payout. :))
It isnt the faavourite here due to the fact that any of these horse could win in this race.

Just thought someone would be interested

edited 3pm
(and for the record he didnt win :( led for 3/4 of the race came in about 5)

Today is slightly windier that yesterday's wind on the beaufort scale of 1... :P

For monday afternoon-evening by the metservice:

"Instability is expected to increase over the northern half of the North Island tomorrow. There is a risk of thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening in Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, western Bay of Plenty, and western parts of Taupo. If thunderstorms do develop, there could be some localised heavy rainfalls, due to slow storm motions. In most parts of this area, the risk is only low, but there is an area of moderate risk about inland parts of Waikato and Waitomo. In this area, as well as the localised heavy rainfalls, there could also be some small hail. "
