A hazy overcast here today. Doesn't feel like much of anything.
You may see snow on the hills there by Wednesday Gary. Should be some quite chilly air undercutting the front by Wednesday.

ANZAC day is usually the start of the persistent cool to cold weather down South.

I see Chch and Invercargill Airport were just 13C at midday  Gorrrrre was on 10C.

Fresh northeaster today and very warm on 23c..

Front to the NW looks quite convective.. lingering active trough also behind the front. Nelson, Buller pegged to get the heaviest rain today.
Tomorrow, Canterbury especially morning and evening.

If ECMWF gets its way.. next weekend should be quite convective with isolated thunderstorms over the North.

Chch and Bank's Peninsula have have quite dry over recent weeks, so this rain should be welcome. Stream levels on the peninsula are rather low, so heavy rain may not cause them to rise to flooding levels so easily. (plus it's already begun raining lightly - should allow moisture to settle into the ground)

Should be interesting to watch ECAN's rain gauge network over the next few days:

http://www.ecan.govt.nz/Our+Environment ... -table.htm

Some good falls along the Divide on Sunday e.g. 163mm at Mt Byrne.

To work out where they all are use this link for North Canty
http://www.ecan.govt.nz/Our+Environment ... -north.htm

and for South
http://www.ecan.govt.nz/Our+Environment ... -south.htm

I've recorded 7mm so far today and only 6mm in the previous 23 days.

May/June can produce a thunderstorm or two in Auckland.

Later this week possibly Saturday looks deeply unstable for northern NZ at this stage.

Woken by heavy rain this morn though the Front must be just about through.

I see Greylynn has had 50.2mm, much of that would have fallen in about three hours after mid night.

max 1 hour total 18mm.
