Heavy rain ahead for the North?

For Thursday - Friday, a shallow tasman low is set to bring in a heavy tropical airmass with Northerlies which hopefully will bring some good rain to Northern areas. Fingers crossed. GFS agrees. ;)

Yes, there is potential for some rough weather across NZ later in the week as the trough crosses NZ.

Last nights soundings show some low level instability, hence Met Service predicting a few inland showers for today. The NZWP sounding indicates max temps today around 28C for the north. :)

looks like the nelson/marlbrough area will also be in for a drentching, 50mm+ in some areas
