BBC to use NZ Weather software

The New Zealand MetService has announced that its television weather graphics system, Weatherscape XT, is about to be launched by the BBC.

The MetService has been working with the BBC both in the UK and from New Zealand for the past year customising and installing the software. MetService CEO John Lumsden says it is the largest television project his company has undertaken so far.

Mr Lumsden says the fact that leading broadcasters around the world have chosen MetService software is an endorsement of both the company and its staff. TVNZ and TV3 use versions of the Weatherscape software.

I'm no expert in meteorological software, but some of you here seem to be, so you'd probably be interested in this news item.

when i was in the UK I met some BBC meterlogists and weather presenters and what they said about the whole thing was not pretty....i.e its 5 months past its launch date, big cost overruns, etc
but hopefully they will put it off!

Who actually developed the software? I didn't think it was Met Service.
