At least I could mow the lawns today having a 24hr period where it was dry enough ;)

Cut the lawns? That's a lost sound around here at the moment. We don't have enough heat in the ground for any growth.
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

You shouldn't mow the lawns in winter anyway, it can stuff up the spring growth...
....but then in a climate where it has permament SW gales and lots of horizontal rain, every opportunity you can get to mow your lawns, no matter what time of year, could be quite beneficial as neighbours could complain of an unkept residence and you could be forced to move.
I never mow my lawns in winter, I don't have to

I only have to mow my lawn once a year! Ain't it great? When I was still living up north, it was a weekly chore. :D

Where did you live?

yes there is also no need to mow lawns here in the winter...

Grasses will be growing today however with the spring temps

just had a very heavy squally shower go through
look out auckland
4mm in 12 minutes or so
