at leat the NE wind has dropped!
as that next trough with associated jet stream gets closer, maybe something will happen later in the day

It's sunny here at the moment, but with heat cloud building up on the ranges. The humidity is very high right now, so I'm expecting possible light showers in a few hours.

just had a real heavy squall line go through
one cb just going to the SW of the city now

i was out in the car...black to the ground
got home, 58 kts recorded in a short sharp squall, just as the rain came through!
almost microburst type nature
the wife said it did get very windy very quickly!
i can see on the detailed graph that it lasted about 3 minutes, peaked up then dropped down over that 3 minutes
3 oC temperature drop too!

58kts is huge gust!

the station console also says 58kts

probably the same squall line we got foggy...or a similar one!

Had a heavy squally shower at my place about 9.30am, you can see the shower line on the Met service 10am radar.

All quiet here now.

I can't imagine what 107km/h would do here for a widespread area Brian.. if you only get leaves blown off!!.. And we get branches/small trees down in 70km/h gusts!

becuase the anenometer is at 10m, and the wind comes up a gully, it could have lifted over the house...or it could have been at , at that height windspeed...
but yes other times when we have had over 55 knots, we have had small branches blow off trees
sure wish i was here to know more exactly what happened!

A few years ago on Benmore we had some very high winds. I don't know how high, but stronger than anything I've ever encountered before or since.

Mt John recorded 160km/h+ that day I believe, and I suspect it was even higher on Benmore, as we're approximately 900m higher elevation.

It's very difficult to remain standing at such windspeeds, even breathing is hard. The novelty of it wears off very quickly!

Yes John, further heavy showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.

The city is really starting to boom, literally too! .. and house prices are soaring.. leading the country according to the latest QV figures.

That's good to hear. In years to come Hamilton will probably be a suburb of Auckland with continuous housing along State highway One 'twixt the 2 cities.
The growth is probably due to the surplus of thunderstorms up there?

Haha highly unlikely with the Waikato expressway going from Bombay to Cambridge set for completion around 2015 I don't think you'll see that!
This aint Japan/Taiwan remember.

And then there's the rivalry between Auckland and Hamilton.. a BIG reason why this wont happen. Could you imagine NZ and Australia joining?
