Looks like that now we will get a decent amount of rain here in Canterbury also the eastern areas of Otago.
I think that MetService and BlueSkies have picked this one out quite well.
It's about time too as it is getting pretty dry out there at West Melton.
Getting sick of this Indian summer weather
Yeh a good 70mm would be nice an again on wednesday night the major player will be surface flooding due to the time of year it is with leaves clogging up the gutters. Also with the ground being so hard and dry any heavy rain will just run off into creeks rivers be watching them closly. Went up to Sefton the other day very dry up there worse than here.
Wouldnt be surprised if we get more than 70mm here cant be ruled out 3.4mm so farr since 9am .
Cheers
Jason.
Snow levels should be around the 2000m mark depending on wind direction which seems to come form the north at the present.
Haven't dived into upper levels yet. JohnGaul

Can't see the tops because of low cloud and mist but it's quite cool today and there's been a bit of rain, so a good chance of snow down to around 1,200-1,500m.
What is this wet stuff falling? Great to see, especially on a day off. Can't be in the garden, no shops open at the moment, just have to sit here and watch movies with the heat pump on
9C and 19mm
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Heh! I know what you mean!
The cloud has lifted a wee bit and I can see that no snow has fallen to 1,200m...maybe up around 1,500-1,800m but hard to say.
Good rain here today. I recorded 44.5mm for this event since it came onto rain yesterday. 24.5mm of it falling here from 7:30am this morning.
The rain gauge at west Melton showed 37mm to 3:30pm this afternoon.
Seems like the rain has eased in Christchurch or around here in the city and out on the plains and BP.
Winds quite strong from the WSw or Sw, even though MetService have forecasted windflow to come from the north? on their Website for today.
Maybe a few showers tomorrow or overnight ...?
The next low should establish itself over the North Island. Maybe give them a few thunderstorms for a change, especially Auckland which is suffering for a bit of a 'thunderstorm drought' at the moment, apparently
Still falling here, with strong winds too. Was North of Dunedin at a friends place for tea, Seacliff, and just came home. The car aqua-plained twice (enough to throw the steering wheel in my hands ) and on the motorway a slip, that reached halfway across the road, had claimed a car. Glad they got there before us.
69mm and climbing. Not bad for little old dunners

We still have heavy rain, state highway 1 north is closed due to flooding and slips, 3 mile hill is closed as well.
I work in at the university, a lot of streets have surface flooding with water coming out of the drains, the leith river is about 0.5 - 1 metre away from flooding (you can see the water from the university weather website). The underside of my car is very clean. Oh and my feet, socks and shoes are wet.

Light rain here inland, 12mm in the last 24hrs in Alex, temp 8 degrees.
Very needed as only 48mm so far this year, after a very warm summer
light to moderate snow on the southern lakes mts looking at the cams, more to come maybe
Looks to be the end of the balmy weather here in Central April has been as warm as March - Not the norm!
Rain cleared from Chch last evening, and now there's sunshine peeking through the clouds. Still a good dose of rain for an area which needs it. Could be a few more showers this afternoon.

Note that the Invercargill radar currently has a beam-blocking problem to the east due to some nearby pine trees. This is also blocking the radar from seeing Dunedin. Hopefully this problem will be fixed sometime within the next few months.
