Number of Active forums

Unread post by Skywatcher »

The downside of splitting the General forum into three parts has been having to monitor and read more forums.

However, I think it will make it easier to find old topics, especially on NZ weather events, which is the main reason for this board.

I would cut the number to four (by combining World Weather and Off Topic) or even back to three if this is what the majority wanted.

So if these two boards are merged that would mean threads like U.S Stormchase thread would be in the same board as Rugby threads!

Hardly makes sense to me! :?

Are there any local forums for discussing things like Kiwis chasing storms overseas? If not then I can see the reason for hosting one here. If there are existing forums for that kind of subject then maybe we don't need such posts on the New Zealand Weather forum.

Having said that I suppose it's more on-topic than a thread about rugby, so it's all rather murky. Do we ban all off-topic posts (as we kind of do those about politics or certain controversial people), or permit some, undefined ones, or just have anything go?

Now I have a headache.

Why not one, there's only a small number of active members here, the number of threads that are non NZ are small.

The trouble is that some members post a lot, and a lot of what they post could justifiably be described as off-topic, in the context of a forum for New Zealand weather.

I've now finished moving topics out of the NZ forum so this gives a better idea of how many there are. I should also move the two sticky topics into Off Topic so the numbers at this time would be:

NZ: 105
World: 37
Off Topic: 36

Possibly a better option for keeping 5 forums would be to change World Weather to General Weather. That would move about a dozen topics from Off Topic and keep everything weather related in two forums. It would also make it easier to decide where a topic should be :!:

The poll hasn't changed for a couple of days and it's been open for five days.

We will continue with five forums but as a compromise, I've changed World Weather to General Weather.

I'll move some of the Off Topic entries there later.
