Important Changes

Unread post by Skywatcher »

After a lot of thought, I've decided to "resign" as moderator of the forums. I don't have the time to visit often enough and as the board is much busier now, the task should really be handled by a group of members.

They will be responsible for day-to-day moderating as well as setting rules for the forum but I'll continue to administer and host the "board".

To make this fair I think that moderators should be elected and candidates should post a message in this thread. It might even be worth having a limited "term of office" e.g. a year. As this is primarily a New Zealand forum, candidates must be resident in NZ.

Candidates must have volunteered by 4pm on WED 12th JULY.

I'll then set up a poll for registered members and the top THREE candidates will be elected. This number might be increased if there are enough volunteers and members feel there should be more moderators.

The poll will close after a week or when 40 votes have been cast, whichever is later.

The other change is that sometime in the next couple of months I'll move the forum to its own website. The old link will redirect to the new site for at least six months.

I'd be happy to take on the role of moderator, but I agree it needs to be a team, as I cant guarrantee to be on here every day.

Would most certainly like to be a candidate Steven..
With all honesty, this place needs a bit of a tidy-up in regards to excessive 'chatter' and weather event discussion organisation.

Cheers :)

While I appreciate the contributions made by overseas members, I felt it should be run by people living in NZ ... at least to start with.

We have four candidates so far which is good.

The only reason I ended up running the forum was because I had a website with the right software installed in March 2003  I guess I didn't plan on its growth but most of that has been in the last year with the website getting over 800,000 hits in June.

No, otherwise you might elect someone who doesn't want the job. You could contact them privately and suggest they volunteer instead.

Hi
I will put my hat in the ring....as I am usualy able to get online alot of the time ...
I would be though someone who would maybe trim out alot of chatter on a thread where there is some real good "as it happens weather info" that people will be wanting to find and read "quickly"(and lots of chatter (e.g people trying to be funny/smart) just takes up alot of room and makes it hard to find the good information that people have posted)) (and so If you dont want that kind of "not so much nonsense cleaning out everyone now and then", then dont vote for me!. Also I think people should bear in mind that some people who have been directly affected by extreme weather might not appreciate people wanting more of the same....althouugh that is a grey area...as this is a weather forum ....for people who like extreme weather!......just I think some sensitivity at times......(I can still and have done made those remarks at times, and dont need to be a moderator to do that!)
Anyway, you have done a great job over the years Steven, its not easy keeping on top of everything :). I know that people dont like there posts deleted, best thing is to move them to somewhere else, and thats what you have been doing, and thats the best way to go about things :)
ps, thanks for vote of confidence c-numbus....might depend on if I have had my morning coffee if i live up to any reputation like that!, LOL
