Mt Pihanga snow capped to base

Saw this photo on the Te Ara online encyclopedia of NZ. Obviously the aftermath of a very cold outbreak with snow down the base of the mountain, albeit on the eastern side (near northern end of Desert Road) at about 500m asl, rather than near Turangi. Probably taken quite recently, my guess being July 2003.
