Hail Storm (Severe)

Found some photos while going through my folders of a severe hail storm we had in Wanganui back in April 2004. Yes its Hail, not snow

It cut a course through 2 suburbs of Wanganui while the rest remained in sunshine.
There was no wind at all and hail lasted for atleast 20 minutes, and was the size of a pea
The hail lasted on the ground for up to 5 days in some places.
from memory i think the temp dropped 8 degrees in 2 mins
and yes, the capillary action caused many leaks in ours and most roofs and even caused one roof to collapse of a warehouse.
as you can see i tried climbing the ladder to clear the roof gutters but gave up when my hands froze

I remember that event being reported on the news - amazing, sure looks like snow, lol

Wow great pics there! sure does look like snow! Was that hail from a thunderstorm?

No thunder or lightning seen or heard at all before/during/after.
it took everyone by surprise with cars just stopping in middle of the road while the hail fell.

It was mainly confined to Castlecliff,a coastal suberb

There were thunderstorms in other areas over the lower NI on that day. A funnel cloud was observed at Palmerston North as well as hail damage to apple crops in the Hawkes Bay. Napier city also had a light hail accumulation in the late afternoon. Thanks for posting those photos.
