Cost for some climate data of some NZ cities.
I emailed NIWA, requesting 6 year's worth of data (rain, sun and temps only) for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill, they informed me that the charge would be $200.00,
which I think is way too ridiculously high. Am wondering why they charge so much ?? Comments??

Is that for monthly & annual means/totals?
Their website has details on charging formulae at the detail level.
But as I have preached in a number of threads, MetService & NIWA under the New Right rules have a proprietary approach to the data, I'm afraid.
As I've probably already noted it costs me $243/year to get the monthly Climate Digest.
The Met Service in UK is damned expensive too I gather - when I once wanted a few years' worth of summary London data I gave up - far too costly.

Just monthly/annual totals.
It came as a shock for me, probably because Im so used to paying small amounts here in Oz for BOM climate data (eg $30 will get you Sydney (Obsevatory/Airport) rainfall, sunshine and both min/max temps for all months/years dating back to 1858 & they even threw in rain-day totals for free), but then its NZ i'm dealing with not Oz, there's a 1st time for everything
Not surprising re the UK climate data, the UK pound is pretty expensive in both our currencies.

When it comes for Weather obs and infomation that you want to get the USA wins hands down.
In the end of 2005 I received 4 DVD's from NOAA, 3 of them are of the 2004 Hurricane season. 2 are a satellite and radar study, other one is GOES satellite Imagery of the season hurricanes, very interesting viewing. The last one I received is of Hurricane Audrey, the radar loops they used back in 1957, Again interesting to watch and all of this free of charge, imagine how NIWA would be charging for something like this!

I was on another forum that a member posted a link to a NOAA page that offered certain educational DVD's to the public for free. From memory you had to email as to why you wanted a certain DVD and your weather interest so they werent just sending them off to randoms. At first they thought I wouldnt get them as these are made in limited No's and the fact that I was outside of America. I did get them in the end so interest for them cant have been that great over there.
