Forum Talk
Please use this thread for queries and discussion regarding the day to day running of the forum.
Hi all,
Just upgraded the forum to phpBB3, the latest release after phpBB2.x (The one we were previously on...) This current version is still in BETA so there maybe the odd bug about, but should be all fixed up in the GOLD release in a couple of months.
The changed design may take a short while to get used to, but i'm over it even already! but if you don't like this style you can always change it back to how it pretty much looked like by going,
User Control Panel ---> Board preferences tab ---> scroll down to My board style: and select subsilver2
We should now have no problem with spambots bypassing the registration process via the "visual confirmation" screen. It's much harder for it to read now so that'll be a sigh of relief.
I re-jigged 'General Weather' and renamed it 'Weather Abroad' - just to make it clearer as to where users are posting topics. (Just think of NZ Weather as General Weather like it was 2 years ago, but without the overseas stuff)
Moderators can now join topics.
Search is currently disabled while I try to enable it.
You can now post YouTube videos directly on the forum. Very easy, just hit the 'youtube' button on the top right, and grab the unique YouTube video code at the end of the YouTube link.
So, if we wanted to embed this awesome clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNbyTr0NGMI, we would go,
RNbyTr0NGMI[/ youtube] (without the spaces)
...And voila!
Please post feedback/questions on this thread.
Thanks!

Great work, Foggy
Not sure if one is available but I preferred using the "subBlack" style (seduced by the dark side ).
We've lost the degree symbol but I think phpBB3 makes it easier to add your own buttons.

Re: Forum upgrade to phpBB3
Is there a 'Mark All Posts/Topics Read' option? I can't see it. That'll be missed if it's gone. I used it for the Blog section.
*OOPS! My bad. I found it.

Nice one Foggy. I like it - nice and crisp.
Unlike Andy's photos of hoar frost/rime from Alex today. Very picturesque but it looks too crisp for these creaking bones!
Brrrrr.

When I first logged in this morning & got a message saying I was being redirected I was wondering what was going on, now I get it. Well done Foggy - I like this format better & like the brighter colours (Blue is one of my favourite colours)

Hi evltre, what were the error messages you were getting? Perhaps it might be a cookie problem, try clicking 'Delete all board cookies' at the bottom before logging in.

Cool.
The software just indexed all the posts, so search should be going again.

Re: Forum upgrade to phpBB3 - ASCII Code for ºC
Good stuff Foggy, there are a few new tricks around like the scrolling text in the thread icons...
Just for everyone's interest, if you are not able to achieve the degree symbol in a previous fashion, I'm not sure how you were doing it but it is available even now if you use the ASCII code value for the character viz " [hold Alt]167 " like this ºC.
Perhaps it was not available originally but now is - I find this works every time.
Cheers from Tokoroa...
