more global warming results?
(remember that a small increase in temperature means a big increase in water holding capacity)

Yep, every rainstorm, cold snap, heatwave, dry spell, cyclone, you name it; it's all because of Global Warming, sorry Global Climate Change ;)
Bring 'em on :D

What gets me is that, while this is a major event and people's lives have been disrupted, this stuff happens almost every day somewhere around the globe yet because it's Jolly Olde Blighty, also referred to as "Home" by a bunch of NZ-born Coro St watchers, we never hear the bloody end of it. You'd think it was happening here!

Grumble, bitch, moan, oughta be a law...

They certainly have had an interesting summer over there in the UK. Seems to have been a succession of low pressure systems crossing the British Isles over over a 2 month period and the ground becoming saturated. Weather the current pressure pattern is caused by Global Warming or not would be impossible to know. A scientist could only hypothesize on this one.

The Uk has a history of out of the bag, weather events. I was reading on stormtrack sometime back that the biggest tornado outbreak in history actually occured in Britian. The guys from Torro were quite serious about it. Something like 110 tornadoes in one day!

Yes global climate change all-right. The climate has been changing since, well ... since someone first rubbed two sticks together #-o :roll
We have relatives living on the banks of the Thames(near where Jethro Tull was buried)They are OK but further up the river , things look dodgy 8-[

We will probably get the British summer this year perhaps not all that rain but of course the dreary cooler rubbish weather and Australia will get the summer Greece etc are having.

This time last year the UK were enjoying a great summer ( record temps), global warming? Cold and wet there this year.

La Nina should mean a better Spring for us Michael but not such a good Summer and a return of the afternoon Storms :D

It's been very warm up the NE states of the USA with temps constantly in the 30ºCs. It has been reported that they have had to have a clamp down of people in Vermont going about in the nude in public because of the hot weather :) :(

Jethro Tull - I presume you're talking the historical 18thC man, not the 70s band named after him.

Seems like the heavy rain has been lashing different parts of England at a time - firstly it was up north and now in the central areas. Meanwhile, southeastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria etc) are sweltering in records temps over 40C in places. (I bet they wouldn't mind some heavy rain)

I see Vienna has been sweltering in 35ºC plus temperatures lately, plus there have been reports of 40ºC temps in the SE of Italy :o

my thinking on climate change/global warming:
we live on a knife edge as far as climate/temperatures go, in the mid latitudes to the high latitudes
i.e there has been cooler and warmer periods over the years, caused by only small shifts in solar or orbit or volcanic eruptions (e.g mt pinatubo)
i.e so it does not take much to change things....
once you see the pollution that is occuring in the northern hemisphere you start to think,,...its might just be enough to tip the balance....and by the time it starts to get noticeble, it will be too late....to do anything about it.....so better to keep an open mind that keep your head in the sand like an ostrich
