Im of to ChCh

Starting a new job on the 1st of of October.

My partner and i are going to rent a house out Whiterock not far from the Okuku river and Mt Tomas Forest.
So Canterbury people whats the climate/weather like there? My impression is that will miss some of the North-easterly coastal rubbish. Thoughts comments Ta. :)

Thats no good
We will miss your reports from Central Otago :(
The weather there is really horrible so you had better move back to Alex ;)
Mt. Tomas is not Christchurch or near to the city or the Okuku River. Where are they?

How often do thunderstorms occur in the Christchurch/Canterbury area? Here there have been 7 days since 1 July.
Looks like you get a few good storms when I see the NZTS site.

Hardly any, sadly now :( They are a thing of the past now here in Canterbury, due to global warming trends.
I don't think a thunderstorm will ever occur in Canterbury for a long while yet, especially as a La nina is looming.
This coming summer, it looks very unlikely with lots of drizzly easterlies, low cloud and high surface pressures.
All the thunderstorms on the NZTS site were rare events that do not occur these days, so it was a real treasure to record those events, when they happened.
If you do want a thunderstorm to happen in Canterbury, the best thing to do is go away or not be here.
There have been many, many, many times that I have waited in anticipation of a good thunderstorm to happen...but then nothing , but when I have been away in Wellington, overseas, wherever, people have rang, text me and said "Hey, We're having a thunderstorm here in Christchurch" It's happened so many times it's unbelievable
I have thinking of renaming my organisation as the NZNTS - but I'll wait and see.

A casual look shows me that the "teara" article rather understates summer temperatures, and definitely understates the annual sunshine.
