Yes i wonder if we will get the mixed dust particles here in the next few days, it seemed to travel across the Tasman well the other week.
Cricket ball sized hail yesterday too by reading that report, geeze and we thought our 10-20mm hail yesterday would have been nasty.
Its over Brisbane now.. YBBN is more or less closed with visibility 500m in blowing dust. Not quite as red as Sydney (was waiting for one of the 'machines' from War of the Worlds to go walking past )
From Brisbanes SouthBank complex, you cannot see the highrises from across the river.
Be interesting for the dust to come to Auckland,it seems to go across the SI instead.Remember as a kid seeing yellow haze on still NE days in W(h)anganui.
could this dust trigger heavy rain on us at all? ive learned about how thick dust in rain will make the rain extra heavy. But now that i think about it, it will all occur out in the tasman well before it gets to us.
My goodness watch this video it went from orange sky to dark red and then black night time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrlD22Hw ... player_emb
The dust particles could be mixed in with the rain, could make for interesting viewing of roads on the west coast of both islands.
Just depends where the flow drags the thick dust.
says WNW 28kts, visibility 400m in Duststorm. I have never seen an ob like that before!
Indeed!!...I imagine, though, you would have these kinds of metars in the Middle East? Places like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, etc...would probably be more common, but still...impressive, nonetheless!!
Amazing... I have not been following any news or doing anything here at the computer these last couple of days... have just needed to go quiet and still, anyway... unbelieveable images... thank's Foggy... take care.
Lightning in NZ The right terminology lends a hint as to the nature of the different forms.
A Vertigo Quote.
Not sure why we're posting comments about the ex-Aussie dust that's currently affecting NZ in the 'Weather Abroad' section? Anyway I've moved them again to the 'Unsettled Period Late September 2009' thread to tie in with all the other posts about the dust affecting NZ.
