well,
looks like NZStorm was right....just heard two good claps between 10:10 and 10:20 am here in Newmarket.

Has anyone got a 10am rain radar image?

So THAT'S Where the garbagey weather we've had down here lately went -- back home where it belongs! :-)

Nice and fine again in Omarama now.

I'm glad you got the thunderstorm today :)
I'm surprised that "Fine Weather Michael" put up the rain-radar imagery for the event. \:D/
Good also to see that Invercargill winning the nation's top temperature slot beating Kaitaia. NOW, that is a good evidence of global warming !!!

Fine down here, save for a thickening high-altitude haze. The temperature was down to 4.8° around 10 minutes ago, but is gradually climbing as the haze thickens.

Report of a TS in the NZ Herald:
"A violent electrical storm hit Stanmore Bay on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, north of Auckland, today cutting power briefly and prompting a Fire Service call-out from Silverdale.

Cathy Newman was at home in D'Oyly Drive working when lightning struck a nearby pine tree and "ricocheted" into the house. "

Any hope of more TS? It's clear here in Omarama again, so I'm not anticipating exciting weather anytime soon, but it would be nice to hear of others dodging lightning! :-)

From my vantage point in Howick (where I was working) I observed a couple of cb's mid-afternoon. Midday sounding tells me the tops were about 6500m.

Of course, it helps if the station owner remembers to restart his computer after a scheduled maintenance shutdown... ;-)
