ChaserCon 2010 live on the Interweb

Unread post by Weetbicks »

Severe Studios is covering this years Chasercon 2010 from Denver Colorado with live streaming of all the events and speeches. The opening evening events just finished a couple of hours ago. Gotta say the coverage is amazing, they had about 20 great interviews with various personalities in the storm chasing and forecasting community. They had a live chat going on @ the same time so you could ask questions in real time, managed to get quite a few questions answered from some of the guests. This evening was free, but for the next 2 days it is 29.95 pay per view (you can watch for up to 7 days afterwards). They are covering every talker at the conference.

Well worth the $ in my opinion if you have an interest in storm chasing in the states. Check out the website for talkers and so on. As far as the streaming goes, quality was good, never skipped or rebuffered once, and it is very professionally done.

I'm sure it will be a very interesting and educational conference. I wonder whether any of it will appear online free at a later date.

A youtube clip here of the 2009 conference which gives the gist of what they are about. I like the way one speaker labels the warm sector of a low as the 'deadly triangle'! It is certainly the case for the USA Central Plains in spring.

The speeches so far have been great, and the camera work and production is very profesional. Dr Josh Wurman gave a talk this morning about Vortex2 project, and Tim Marshall gave a great and very funny talk on the "May Tricks" (matrix get it) about lack of tornadoes in May last year and reasons etc... Tim Samaras gave a great talk about half an hour ago about his TWISTEX project. The guy talking now (Howie Bluestein) is pretty boring, very technical stuff about radar.

Interesting to hear some of the talk by Rich Thompson( Storm Prediction Center), from what I have seen Chasers mostly have great respect for the work done by SPC.

Well, SevereStudios f**ked up lol. Apparently they forgot to hit the "Record" checkbox on their software so the first day of talks wasn't archived. However one of the organisers was doing their own recording of all the talks so they are in the process of dubbing that stuff, so all is not lost! Won't be quite as good as the severe studios coverage but will still be watchable.
