Hi all,
I got myself a 'Bluejay' IP camera for weather observation. It's a nice wee camera, and the best thing is it has pitch/yaw control like the Tekapo camera.
I'm on XTRA and don't want to pay $20 XTRA a month for a static IP address. SOooo, I've been trying to get this running using the DYNDNS website to give me a 'virtual' fixed IP address and use 'port forwarding' on my broadband modem to access the IP cam offsite.
However, I can't get the thing to work.. I've got the DYNDNS thing working and transferring my IP address to their website so my 'virtual site' will work, but still no joy..
I've attached a pic of my current setup... any helpers?!!

Have you setup Dyndns on your router? usually it has special function for it. (not just port forwarding)Andrew Massie wrote:Hi all,

Are you sure your ip cam is running on port 80?
Port forwarding usually pokes a hole in the firewall but you may have a router that still protects your ports, so double check you that port 80 or whatever port isnt sleathed.
Make sure that the port forwarding rule is routing traffic to your IP cameras internal IP address usually in the form of 192.168.1.x
DHCP is usually in use on home routers so it may be a good idea to make sure your IP camera has a static IP address (1 that will not change)
Some routers will allow you to use a DHCP override which will use your MAC address of your IP camera to assign a IP address (1 that will not change) towards that MAC address on your camera.
Let me know if you need any more help.
My Cisco course is finally coming in use, LOL

I think it's working... looking for offsite trial somebody.. go to http://thunderboltnz.homeftp.org using IE, use the login name 'guest' and password 'weather', and see if you can get it to go...!

Re: IP webcam help!
I have a problem with the settings it wanted, cause quite frankly it leaves the barn door wide open to all sorts of nasties. I did however use a virtual machine environment to test, but was unsuccessful.
It looked like it tied to work, but I never got an image, just the little red cross in the top left corner of the image indicating it was unable to load it.
Here's the message I kept getting, despite making the recommended changes:
Ok, I won't upload it, I'm getting a maximum of 80 KB message?!?

Yeah, somebody clicked on the <---> button, which keeps it auto moving. It just needed clicking on again to stop. It's not the flashest camera in the world, just another toy! Saves me having to get up on the roof to see down south when nasty weather's coming.. I'm also going to use it to upload pics to my Weather Underground weather station site and as a security camera too..03Stormchaser wrote:Working for me, although unsure if I was controling the camera or not, seemed to have a mind of its own!
I've changed the password. If you want access, let me know and I'll tell you, I don't want it public knowledge!

Did you see the article about in the latest issue of "Avenues" about some idiot climbing onto roofs in Selwyn street to record thunderstorms. Looked incredibly like me?
