An interesting thing about this polar outbreak is that it even managed to cross the equator. The southerly only managed to send the temperature down by a few degrees I think in areas of northern South America just to the north of the equator, but I've never heard of a Southern Hemisphere southerly outbreak making it all the way to the northern hemisphere.

I notice the sea surface temps off Buenas Aires coast are around 10C, about the same as Dunedin. Looks to be a cold current running up the Argentine coast.

Thats amazing that Buenos Aires had snow considering about as close to the equator as Auckland and that it fall to sea level.

I think the cold is partly the continental affect. Also the snow would have been warm advective snow, a subtropical system aloft with some cold low level air undercutting it.
