Labour weekend 2010- sunny!

Unread post by eugnz »

We are hosting a festival/party labour weekend and are expecting, hoping for, praying, chanting and "Thanking Ahead" for an amazing, sunny, still, warm weekend!
Not too much to ask eh........
What is the common thought on past patterns and future predictions?

Thanks!

Too early for Labour weekend weather predictions, about a week to 10days out is when we start to see the possibilities.

I think there will be a dry off between now and Xmas. So odds are that labour weekend won't be bad.

Details please... Could be worth a look.

the PTA have organised for a local wild deer to get shot to provide venison sausages from a local butcher for a BBQ
that will be out contribution :)
there should be lots of food stall with "wild" food and local wines and live entertainment :)

OT: out school is putting down a bore for water: interesting stuff: the aquifer is an ancient shell bed....nearly 200ft below sea level....the whole auckland area used to be a shallow bay duing the last big ice age I think...and there is a 5m thick deposit of shells from the bottom of this large shallow bay!
(the peninsular did not exist....that has formed since....as part of a sand bar from when the waikato river emptied into the bay I think....anyway, fascinating stuff to see these shells they have brought up with the return water while drilling...looked like cockles...but really thick shells)
(Kaawa Aquifer, laid down in the Pliocene period (0.5m years ago (good ol google):

Sounds interesting, throw in a late afternoon thunderstorm and I'd be there.
Which day/time?

Starting to get a glimpse of what the weather might be like for Labour weekend, looking good so far with high preasure over NZ, rain/shower risk over the far SW of NZ.

Sadly Michael is right. It could change. Historically Labour Weekend hasn't been great weather.

I'm hoping we will get showers... Late afternoon thunderstorms actually.

I wonder what Murphy will deliver.

The ECWMF is in agreement with the gfs currently. I'm starting to believe we will get a fine labour weekend.

The weather set up for Labour weekend is about as good as you could expect for October with a big high crossing. Could be a bit breezy around some of the coasts. The trough approaching the South Island will bring rain to Fiordland from Sunday and further north Monday.

I reckon Sat/Sun will be rather anticyclonic gloomy at this stage,Friday probably be sunnier while the SW is still strong though monday for several days looks the best period with sunshine.

The warmest places during the weekend would be on the eastern side of the country, in Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Christchurch, where temperatures would peak around 24 degrees on Sunday

I see Metservice are saying a southerly is due in Canterbury on Sunday evening and drizzle patches on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday-perhaps not the brightest of endings to the long weekend now :(
