Milan winter 1985-1986

about 1 meter of snow after temperatures till -17Â° just outside the city...

milan is just 122 m

i was told that that winter in the po valley (the plain of milan, in north italy) the lowest temperature reached was -28.5Â° !!!!!!!!!

north italy:

the point M is Milan
the point P is the place where the temperature reached -28.5 degrees

What is the source of such cold temperatures? - altitude - latitude - prevailing winds or lack of them - ? - that's extremely cold!

i wasn't born yet but i heard that cold air from russia hit the whole italy (-20Â° at 850 hPa) than the snow on the ground with its effect...
