Weather-station Blues

does any one know if
weatherdata.co.nz
has a parent company anywhere e,g USA ?
I am having major problems trying to get repairs done to the ISS board - battery holder joint to be re soldered and ICAp replaced.
After 2 weeks no one from their service dept has even contacted me about the fault. I mean how hard it is for someone to ring ?
Have been dealing with their so called Customer Relations Manager.
They don't know what the words Customer service means !
Is there another company I can get parts from ?

I strongly advise people not to deal with
weatherdata.co.nz
their service is non existent

I bought my station from there, fast order processing and delivery, but never had to send in for repairs, and am dreading the day this may happen.

Another member on this forum, Jamie, had to send his in for repairs and they held in for about 2 months. so yes, their repair services do seem poor and slow!

Many People already agree with you on weatherdata's service!

http://www.archertradingpost.com/ is a good place for parts, they are away until the 20th though.

Hmm, I bought in some of the Caps in Jamie's station which are still in stock. I was slack and never quite got around to going over and changing them.

If it's simply a case of resoldering a connection and replacing the caps, I may be able to help.

Send me a PM, I'll dig out the caps later.

Hello, kitaro - just to say a "PM" is a "Private Message" - see the option on the right-hand side beneath a poster's name & details? - have never used it myself but no doubt it's self-explanatory. Best wishes.

I had major problems with them through the spring last year too. I lost over 2 full months of data because they were so incompetent at getting simple things done. I ended up just hounding them each day and pressuring them because otherwise nothing got done. Lost a lot of faith in them.

I am guessing they dont send to nZ

Must be another place in NZ I can get parts from surely !
I have asked weatherdata.co.nz
to send my parts back so I need to source fromdifferent company - I will not deal with weatherdata.co.nz
My station has been out of action for a month now

Have you considered asking in a US weather forum if someone knows a reputable repairer they could assist you securing parts from?

The caps are easy, I just tack them on to other orders. Sadly it's the specialised stuff I can't get that may be your downfall.

Have posted request for information on http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index. ... ,16.0.html before for names of suppliers and have just done so again.
Also advised people of poor quality of Davis weather stations maybe someone at Davis will read and take note!
Looks like there is only one agent for Davis in NZ just shows what happens when there is a monopoly in place.
My station parts were returned from Tauraunga if return address on box was correct.
So does weatherdata.co.nz send stuff to Tauranga for repair ?

Not that I am aware of. If you have a full address up here I'd be interested to know what it was.

Note: Not appropriate to post it publicly here, suggested sending it via PM.

Yea I dont think they send stuff to Tauranga they fix it onsite from what I understand.

But I remember seeing a "Davis Instruments NZ" being located in Tauranga.

Google Map Search "Davis Instruments NZ" and it will come up with an address (however its very unspecific).

Wow, I knew the occupants of that house 30 odd years ago. In fact most of my family expected my brother to marry one of the girls living there.

I live not too far from there so I may do a cold call and see what I can find out.

They do have a parent company that Zoe works under - Scottech

She was in the office when me and Jamie went there, Scottech was just in the office next door.

Strange as Scottech's manager told me when I recently purchased my station that the two interests are being run as separate businesses and that Zoe does most of her work from home - maybe he got it wrong??

Anyways doesn't change the fact that Scottech is the parent body and the official NZ importer - so if you need to go higher you will have to deal with Davis direct.

the adress on the box parts came back in is

Kiatonics

po box 8231

maybe it was just a box that was spare
Zoe seems to be a one man band as it were/ If she is not there phone is not answered or email responded to.

Anyway I have had the battery holder resoldered to board - done while I waited- no charge !
This firm in Petone will solder the supoercap on when I get it as well.
Now thats excellent service.
The firm is tisco/Hanlons Petone

Hi tgsnoopy
Are you able to send me a supercap please.
I will make payment direct to your bank account if you give the number.
My local electonics firm Tisco/hanlons will install it for me.
If you could mail me direct on kitaro@actrix,co.nz it would be a lot quicker
than going via forum
I find it amazing Davis dont even care about the bad publicity they get
Karl

NOte I could not get pm thing to work tried for 15 mnins - pig of a system to use !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So am posting here hoping you see it

Hello

Has anyone purchased a Davis Vantage Vue from the US, more specifically scientificsales.com?

If so have you had any issues ?

Cheers

Hi dazza99,
Thought your query might be better suited to this thread, being the last Davis discussion we had. ;)

Also, here's a couple more recent threads that may be of interest...
Buying a weather station - help
Davis vantage pro 2 - where to buy etc
