Temp here fell to + 6.3. :D

Nice frost Gary ;)


Had thick fog here for two days which cleared with the wind change in the afternoon today so no big frosts here.

todays temp range was -0.2 to 3.6 degrees got some nice hoar forsts pics at around 500m in the mountains south of alex today.

How ever tonight may be different, as we have clear skys at the moment.

Temp now -1.4 degrees. 8)

Just looked on your web page Gary -2.1 all ready in Omarama :)

Was last nights temp the lowest for you so far this winter ?

Yes, definitely. Glad I stocked up on firewood! Did you say you have pics of the hoarfrost? Will you post them anytime? Always pretty! :-)

I must have got down to about 4 degrees in AK almost a frost but looked more like heavy dew ;)

I grew up on the Coromandel Peninsula, but spent a few years on and off in Auckland when I was a kid. I remember back when much of Auckland was still undeveloped ('70s) and there were lots of big open fields, even in central areas, and in winter you'd get some awesome frosts. One morning I found a 1/2" thick layer of ice in an old wheelbarrow full of rainwater, and there were other mornings like that too. Now that the city consists of little but concrete and steel and asphalt, I'm sure those frosts are pretty much a thing of the past. I used to wonder whether the smog was to blame, but then I remembered that back in the old days there were a lot more unregulated factory chimneys belching thick black smoke, and some days a snow-like deposit would settle over everything (only it was black, not white). Since most things in NZ are produced overseas now, I suspect Auckland's air is cleaner than it ever was in those days.
