Squalls and thunder, western North Island 7th-8th July
Round 2 of the squally weather inbound. Looks like heavy squally showers with possible thunder will reach the west of the North Island from about the middle of the day. And a cold front/SW change crosses this evening/overnight. Severe squalls of 70kts not out of the question later today/in the early morning.

According to metservice, west Auckland has a low thunder risk and the rest of Auckland no thunder risk. Darn...

Been a nice day so far, dry with light NNW breeze. First band of showers closing in gradually...

I see a few orphined anvils around atm, some fresh convection over the Kaimais with some pileus caps on the towers going up
Strong upper level winds causing clouds to look very lenticular, looks very nice.

Lightning is out to the distant S/SW from here.
Looks like the main front is due in the early hours.

think hamilton is too far inland and the band is coming in from the wrong angle for here.
