The drizzly showers in Auckland should clear, hopefully some sunny periods this afternoon. A real anticyclonic gloom day though.

Quite humid dewpoint of 16.C at Greylynn, currently 18C, first muggy day of the new season. Plenty of cloud but the afternoon should be bright with sunny spells and the chance of a shower.

A surprise NW has come up in the last hour or so though bumping the temperature here to 25C.

Nice afternoon in Auckland with 21C.
Neighbors said they heard of a big hail storm today.
TV1 reported hail on the ground at Dannevirke. The lower NI was more into the upper trough.

Yea heard of nmany hail reports around here. Been heaps of thunder and torrential rain all afternoon. Awesome to see the flash flooding they get around here. I can't believe how much flooding they get and it's over so quick. I'm hearing. Rain on roof still and power now out. Probably tree or slip taking out power

A warm start to the day, Greylynn showing 19C with a dewpoint of 16C.

Some cold weather showing up in the models for later this week, possibly snow to low levels for the far southwest of NZ.

The 15C dewpoint helps give the 20C day the warm feel, by Friday we get into dry air so 20C will feel much cooler.

A NW breeze earlier this morning gave way to a freshening NE with increasing high cloud. Was nice and warm first thing at 20 degrees around 10am which was the best part of the day. Hoping this ongoing cloud clears tomorrow with the advancing NW flow tomorrow so we can get to 25 degrees, that would be great!

It only dropped to about 14C here overnight with that NW breeze so was very pleasent, the NE kicked in around midday though.
A change to a more W-NW flow this week should see some warm temperatures perhaps more 27C on the cards tomorrow provided theres not too much high cloud about, a few SW flicks colder air is on Friday so be on the look out for coastal CB's.
This is actually quite the norm for this time of the year, cup and show week coming up soon normally we get warm NW days and occasionally a squally/thundery trough come through to ruffle those dresses at the races :B .

Looks like some decent rain over the NI later tomorrow. Will be quite humid in the north tomorrow with 17C dps. Unfortunately looks like a cooler blustery trough for the remainder of the week.

Longer range the gfs is indicating a hot airmass reaching NZ from Aussie early next week. I hope that verifies.

Yes, warmer than normal this month for the N'ern main-centres, but cooler in the S. Based on NIWA's figures, Mangere's T-mean is currently about +0.5C, Akld Aero and Hamilton Aero +0.8C, Tauranga Aero +1.1C, Wgtn (Kelburn) +0.1C, Chch Aero -0.7C and Dunedin (Musselburgh) -0.5C.

Also above or well above normal rainfall for all the main centres. Sunshine below or well below normal for Akld, Hamilton, Wgtn and Chch, but above normal for Dunedin (no data for Tauranga, but looks to be also above normal).

yes, 0.7C so far above normal for Oct (1 day still to go) for me
despite the cloudy days (but that made the nights a bit warmer I guess)
