General November Weather
Low clouds have burnt away in Auckland, should be a warm afternoon. A good start to November.
I heard a NIWA report on the radio last night that the north of the country will get a warmer drier summer than normal due to southwesterlies. I can't see more SW being warm for Auckland though!

Re: General November Weather
yeah....only good for eastern NI and eastern waikato/coromandel...
but with El Nino not doing much at this stage, should be no worse than normal for SW winds this summer
(what ever normal is)

Re: General November Weather
But Summer SouthWesterlies do bring plenty of fine weather to Auckland , morning low clouds usually burn away early and the general pattern is stable. Certainly excellent for the traditional summer holiday spots like the Bay of Islands and Coromandel
low cloud cleared here late morn, light winds, 20C

Re: General November Weather
Looks cold over the South Island tomorrow! 850mb-5C.
Snow on the cards for North Canterbury with the front. Also wintery showers further south!
Cold upper air over the inland North Island Sunday could be convective??? Its dry air but UKmet is colder than GFS.

I see a humid day for Auckland tomorrow with 16C dewpoints but the moisture really clears out by Sunday.

Yes,it looks as though the colder weather will come through overnight with some steady rain from about 5am and through the morning. Not much of a day here but on Sunday it should clear to some fine weather with a southerly wind. Temperatures much cooler.
Sadly, no storms with the weather

Re: General November Weather
Just a timing issue with that frontal system comes through in the morning so no time for heating, otherwise if it was midday to afternoon/evening arriving i would expect a decent set up for storms.
I am hoping the rain pulls back by tomorrow night with the Rolleston fireworks and carnival on.
Good reminder of summer on the way out there today 25C in some places but generally hovering around 23-24C with a fresher NWer coming off the melting snow.
Very strong at times at work though rattling the glass panels definatly up over gale force, nice evening now though sitting on 22C with a 20-30km NW breeze.

Re: General November Weather
Looks like NZ will get stuck in a cooler SSW pattern for a few days.
Hopefully we get plenty of sun in Auckland but looks windy and cool tomorrow.
The instability over the North Island tomorrow(Sunday) looks fairly shallow, under 10000ft, so just weak showers over the ranges.

The winds in october wernt really true SW much of the time, though there was the odd squall from the SW time to time, they were W or WSW.This one looks much worse being true SW the next 2 days.

Re: General November Weather
Looks like a nice polar outbreak occuring out to the east of NZ early week. Imagine that crossing NZ in November!!!

If those polar outbreaks continue into Summer, we will be in Thunderstorm central

Re: General November Weather
Same down here Tim perfect set ups for decent storms not so for farmers when the large hail hits thier crops.
I am hoping the pattern will get interesting again soon, the systems at the moment do seem to be very stationary and ridged not to mention coming through at the wrong hours of the day
Not too much in the pipeline for storms here this week is pretty much a carbon copy of last week with a system on friday/saturday.

Re: General November Weather
Looks like staying on the cool side of average this week. I just hope we can get plenty of sunshine in Auckland.
There looks to be a surface trough crossing northern areas on Tuesday with some showers (easterly surge).

Looks like a low thunder risk for the west of Waikato Tuesday given the time of year.NZstorm wrote: There looks to be a surface trough crossing northern areas on Tuesday with some showers (easterly surge).
