Yep! A very special day indeed for the US. Probably finally a good excuse to visit Yellowstone and set up for a landscape photo in the vicinity of Jackson Hole, WY (just day dreaming here). Surely around 11am there wouldn't be too much convection around the area.

At least in the US you can easily tell what the weather be like 5 days in advance and move in time accordingly. Missouri and states southeast would be subject to dewpoints normally between 20-24C that time of year (and thunderstorms), so perhaps on the risky side if there's no strong ridge in place.

Nebraska would be a very safe option as it dries out considerably the further west you go.

Don't forget about the 9 March 2016 total over Indonesia - problem with this one is it's very equatorial and at the mercy of deep tropical convection.

Good thing about the US is you wont be limited to locations. Even Florida is an option, although like you mention increased risk of cloud cover.
