Conflicting information

Unread post by orion_jb2001 »

Hi,

Being new to the blitz network, does anyone else find the information that comes through the blitz forums is sometimes annoyingly conflicting, especially for a new person trying to learn the ropes? Some of you may have seen some posts from me relating to questions on setting up the hardware, especially in the e field area, like, the E field amp needs to be near the pre amp, the E field amp needs to be near the controller, use RJ45 cable between as a long run between the E amp and the controller, use coax as the long length between the pre amp and the E field amp; the E field antenna needs to be close to the GPS module in relation to time stamping of signal, what do you classify as the location of the GPS module, with an external GPS antenna, at the site of that external antenna or the module on the controller PCB etc etc. There just seems to be no consistency in what is suppose to be the correct answer, nor any clarification from the perceived gurus about wrong information, to the extent that the perceived gurus seem to not be on the same page. It seems that until they bite the bullet and put out kits built exactly the same, with exactly the same mounting hardware, the TOA system that is suppose to use exactly or very similar setups, is going to be flawed because of someone's perceived personal belief in what is right. There is no one saying, no do it this way or our data is going to be flawed because of inconsistency of our hardware setups. Very frustrating for a new person, trying to sort out the chaff from the wheat, to get their system accurate and being worthwhile, instead of an expensive gizmo!

regards,

Jeff :-k :)

In a nutshell, for accuracy, the GPSr needs to be mounted close to the aerials for the detector, they need to have similar length cables between them and the processing device. So no coils of spare cable on one and not on the other if that makes sense. Mind you, it wouldn't stop the detection, just reduce it's accuracy.

Thanks, that would make technical sense to me.... 8)

The best resource to get accurate information, is the main Blitzortung PDF document which deals with everything from soldering to mounting etc.
It was written by the developers (Egon , Tobias etc), I used the document quite a lot to get recommendations on where to place it etc.

Yes, it seems that is what it is tending, the pdf document seems to be the eventual answer. How are you going with giving me access to your members only resource's? :)
