3rd August 2015, Snow in Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart experienced its first fall of snow to sea level since July 1986 with the snow even settling thinly on some of the local beaches. There are some great photos on the attached link.

EDIT: By snowfall, I mean a noticeable settling on the ground. I am sure they will have had a few flakes in the wind or some sleet between 1986 and today.

They had a pool of deep instability with very cold air cross the region. Looks a good Winter event for them, El Nino showing itself.

A link to some details (and pictures) of the 1986 event - it certainly appears settling snow is a fairly rare visitor to the city centre and low lying suburbs of Hobart.

I remember snowflakes and sleet in central Hobart when I was there in October 1993.
