Nice to finally be hitting spring after what felt like the coldest winter in a few years anyway.
Although it does look to be a wet week next week, with a brief polar blast next weekend.

Looks like the rain totals have been cut in half for Tuesday/Wednesday in the last few model runs, at least for mid-Canterbury

Cold upper air tomorrow should support a few rumbles thunder in the west of the North Island. The best chance for Auckland will be in the evening. Have to see what dps look like tomorrow. Will be good to get a brighter day tomorrow anyway after a few grey days!

As luck would have it we are sharing Unwin Hut with a bunch of students and professors from university who are studying the weather. Suspect this is a warm.advection set up.

Looking like the cold upper air/convection will reach the west of the North Island by morning.
Looks like there will be two fronts to watch out for, one middle of the day and another mid evening. Ukmet has 500mb temp over west Auckland at midday -25C and -24C mid evening. Dps about 12C along the west coast.

Great to see those snow pics Razor.

That system late Friday/early Saturday could bring a brief downpour to northern regions with surface runoff and local flooding. The ground is sodden in Auckland.

Looks bitterly cold over the South Island Sun/Mon, Wintry precipitation, south eastern parts of the North Island look like catching the very cold weather as well.

Looking like a few cm snow could accumulate at sea level for Otago into Canterbury. 10cm on the Dunedin Hill suburbs.
