MetOcean, The company I work for has just released the southernmost WaveBouy in the world, to which the data is available to the public for free.
Will be great to see this data especially in Winter when the Southern Ocean starts ramping up.

Is it correct that the buoy will only be there for 6 months?Tornado Tim wrote:MetOcean, The company I work for has just released the southernmost WaveBouy in the world, to which the data is available to the public for free.

It would be really good if it lasted through Spring as well. The most interesting swell location would be west of the actual site, so that SW swells incident on NZ would be measured upstream. In it's current location, it's most relevant to very southerly swells, but any extra observations are of great interest down there.
Also the data is not visible to me anyway. I have tried the three main browsers and the connection always times out.
(Chrome: "the connection was reset" grey box with sad face)
(IE: "this page can't be displayed" inside the frame where the data should be)
(Firefox: "secure connection failed")
Will the data be available in MOV?

Something else I was wondering about: the ice edge in winter extends quite a long way northwards, so I wonder if there would be a limited fetch in straight southerlies at the buoy site come August time? I can't remember to what latitude the ice edge extends.....

Re: Southernmost Wave Bouy Released
The wave bouy has just recorded a 15.8 meter wave, 9.4 meter significant wave height and its still alive!
The southern ocean certainly hasnt died down over the summer period!
