Micheal
You should move to Auckland. We do not get the southwester nearly as bad here.
In Auckland we have been averaging 5knots all day, have not had any precip, sunny spells and 18C. Not bad.
For Manukau observations I look at the airport. 18knots average, 16C showers. Yes there has been showers down your way all day according to airport obs.

I know the NE here doesn't blow as bad as it can get on the shore or even in the city but the rain here has stopped in the meantime(it last rained about 10am)-Our SE only blow hard when theres more of a depresson circulation confined in a low to the north of us rather than a broad flow(if you know what I mean)-The NW we don't really get here but we have had gusts from that direction just before a front with a WSW change.

For Auckland weather this observing site in Grey Lynn looks representative.
