Re: Iceland Eruption
A new Volcano in Auckland could be just like this one?

Re: Iceland Eruption
Re the above. It's a shame they put music to it. I would rather listen to the sound of the hot lava slurping down also the hissing of the lava when rain is falling on it. Fantastic footage though.
Interesting too with this volcano, not putting out plumes of smoke what did Mt. Eyjafjalljokull did in 2010, which caused air disruption in the Northern Hemisphere. I like the name of these Icelandic name places which the media have trouble trying to pronounce them, especially the Eyjafjallajokull eruption in 2010. How is Fagradalsfjall pronounced?

The famous webcam succumb to the lava flow overnight.

If I could see this from my windows I'd at least be sitting on a packed suitcase with the car-keys in my hand:

Nah! That's a sitting up the road watching in the rear view mirror, with your bag already in the back, so you don't get gridlocked in kind of event in my eyes! Imagine the kind of pent up pressure in the magma to make it shoot that high, hard to imagine there isn't another fault around the place it might break through.
Some pretty trick schemes in place to manage the lava flow.

Re: Iceland Eruption
Thought I'd reactivate this thread as Iceland has clearly reactivated too
At present the town of Grindavik, 40km from the capital, has been evacuated due to damaging seismicity led by magma dyke intrusion currently within 100m of the surface. Fascinating analysis going on at the Iceland Met Office- see link:
https://en.vedur.is/about-imo/news/a-se ... last-night
Interesting few days / weeks ahead with eruptive activity seemingly imminent in a line between the blue Pools and Power station through to the cost just off Grundavik.
Hope it goes as well as possible for the inhabitants and its not too catastrophic for the town, which is already badly damaged from the earthquakes and ground deformation
