My phone gave me a fright when this happened ,sudden loud alarm and a notification, earthquake nearby. It beat the Geonet app by a good minute or more. I did not install anything specifically and did it not seem to be related to the Geonet app which I do have installed. Must be a new Google thing. Anyone else get the same?

I have an android and I didn't get the alert but the shaking would have been minimal this far north. I read about this in April for Greece and NZ. https://blog.google/products/android/in ... utside-us/

That explains alot thanks. I presume it was not necessarily that my phone detected shaking but some did and it sent alerts to every phone within a certain radius. That said my phone was sitting flat on top of a stool next to me so was in a good position to detect any shaking.

My phone was sitting in it's (Wireless) Charging cradle. Gave me such a fright I almost didn't notice the actual quake.
