Re: General September Weather
I am yet to read a business case for this that confirms anything other than job cuts and cost savings. This is not science driven from my viewBradley wrote: ↑Thu 26/09/2024 14:09 About time!!!

Re: NIWA/ Metservice
So how would it work them being “absorbed”, would MetService be shut down and all of its services merged to NIWA?

Thar seems to be the proposal, single agency at Greta Point. No more Kelburn office? I understand NIWA got a significant funding injection recently for IT as well.
If its to science by balance sheet, then God help us
GNS/ Geonet just laid off a few dozen scientists too

The only thing that would excite me about this announcement, is open access to Radar data.

Re: NIWA/ Metservice
These two have had legal battles for years, so it's surprising that they are merging.
Personally I am not a fan of Chris Brandalino and his other American side forecaster that do videos regularly.
They tend to change thier forecast outlook as it happens not having a strategic plan that is set and original.
I'm also more of a believer when it comes to forecasting in Aotearoa, you really do need that sound years of local topographical knowledge to understand the weather regionally.
NIWA needs to stick to it's climatical side, not weather forecasting.

I wonder what they will call their new combined organisation? MetKiwi, like NZR to TollRail, etc., until they launched there new name to KiwiRail many years ago?
...or a boring name like The New Zealand Combined Bureau of Meteorology ?
Maybe a more Te Reo Maori name would be more appropriate?
